Why passphrases help
A passphrase can be easier to type and remember than a complex random string, while still being strong when it is long and randomly generated.
Use at least four random words. For important accounts, use more words and store the phrase in a password manager.
Private generation
The tool runs in your browser. Passwords are not transmitted, stored, logged, placed in analytics, or added to any URL.
The words are selected locally using browser cryptography and are not sent to ThePassKey.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are generated passwords saved?
No. Generated passwords stay on your device and are never stored by ThePassKey.
Does the password checker send my password anywhere?
No. The checker estimates strength in your browser only. Typed passwords are not sent to a server.
Should I still use a password manager?
Yes. A trusted password manager helps you store long unique passwords safely for every account.
